I'm not at all hep to the mythos surrounding Cthulhu, so I had to do a little research, and a very little it was too -- I found a bunch of drawings at DeviantArt.com and had a quick glom at a couple dozen of 'em. You can be sure I'd go about the business of researching Cthulhu more thoroughly if I had to design him for a Saturday morning cartoon on the Family Channel. H. P. Lovecraft must have been a bit fuzzy in describing his demon-deity, for no two creators at Deviant Art depicted him the same way, but all of them gave him a squid-head, so I gave him one too. Apart from that, I wanted to give him a body that would allow him to pursue what I suppose to be his true calling:

There's just no holding back a born hoofer predating the first appearance of man. This boy's gonna drive the crowds insane at first sight, don't you think?

Today at work, I saw Cam wearing a t-shirt with Cthulhu on it. I was totally thrilled by the design on his shirt... I was about to jump to him, grab his nose and threaten him to give me his damn shirt.... OK.. it's not funny. yeah... I know.

Anyway, I did some research on it. ( Thanks to wikipedia... saved me lots time on finding things) You can check here to find what little cute Cthulhu is.

I hope our taskmaster doesn't mind that in preparing my submission for the latest blog assignment, I broadened the scope of it a tad by reaching outside the Flintstone and Simpson families for combatants. I didn't reach far, mind you; I chose the best friends of the families' patriarchs to face one another in battle. Yes, I have pitted Barney Rubble, Fred's bosom buddy, against Barney Gumble, Homer's devoted drinking partner. The two men have issued dares to each other and taken them without hesitation. Barney G dared Barney R to drink an entire keg of beer without puking or going unconscious, and Barney R dared Barney G to eat an entire brontosaurus leg. The results are apparent in the picture below:

I don't think there'll be much honking of horns in either Springfield or Bedrock tonight.

Well, it's not that late, but it's late enough to earn its author the disdain of all who wait upon his every line. (Hello? Hello?) But it's here, or rather they're here -- not one, but two drawings of Mugatu modeling some dishy new duds of his own creation. (Well, my creation, but you get the picture.)

At the top the Moogster sports gymwear which harks back to the fashions of the 1970s, both in the gymnasium and in the office; note the padded shoulders and overall bagginess. The lower arms billow to suggest Popeyesque vitality. At the bottom, his nibs seems to offer himself as a revamped mascot of the Lucky Charms breakfast cereal. (The sketch on the left is a stray doodle unable to undergo cropping without injury to our subject. Consider it a sketch of the old Lucky in his dotage, now retired and apparently displeased with his replacement.)

So much for Mugatu. What's the program this week?

Colour added

So this is the first go at a colour scheme... I changed the BG and that right (I think I earlier said it was the left) hand. I've been smashng random texture brushes over the image to try to achieve a painty feel, as though the bg and the figure blend a little. The inner border hides the effect a little bit. It's mostly in the lower right corner but there's also some on the right sleeve trailing towards the light.
Any suggestions?

OK so here's the thing. I'm not posting this on my blog because there's a possibility that my dad reads that but I know for damn sure he doesn't know this blog exists. He retired this year and some people at his office asked me to do a charicature of him for a coffee book photo dealy. So I spent all night trying to get at least a hefty start on the values for the portrait... I'd ideally like to try sort of a tom harris sort of look (link is on my blog) but of course I'm not even close to that good and I'm also pretty sure he uses painter. But if anyone has any suggestions, feel free to fire away. I plan on fixing the cloud BG heavily and also this is not the final colour scheme... I want to keep it in warm autumn colours, but it won't be monochromatic. Any suggestions would be great.

Just got past the latest deadline at Mercury, and now I've made some time to catch up with the rest of this enclave. So, even though Halloween's now three days behind us and we've all had our fill of ghosts, goblins, Frankenstein monsters and other upstanding citizen-creatures of the night, here's my Halloween drawing all the same. Ah-ha! Here is my brain monster. He likes to eat arrogant kids who torture or abandon toys and dolls. This is the little fantasy I had when I was little. I stopped buying dolls since watching horror movie about Japanese dolls killing people. I think they are the scariest dolls for kids; they are just made for scaring kids.

Here's my own effort at our first assignment -- an ambulatory brain whose new freedom has so distressed his former possessor that the two of them have hit the talk show circuit, in the jilted man's hopes that his wayward grey matter will repent of his selfishness and return home. All seems in vain, however, as the brain has clearly outgrown his master -- as indeed he had to, since I couldn't draw him small enough to fit the man's cranium without making him mistakeable for a bath sponge or a ball of yarn.

Punishing myself for not going to life drawing this week, I have attempted to combine some anatomical study (by which I mean trying to sort of remember ANYTHING about anatomy) and the brain project. Minus the pink colour, it kind of looks like this unfortunate model contracted a terrible case of BenGrimmus Posterioris. Oh well. There's always next week =)

ahoy all, hope most of you now made your way to this site. now withought further "adue" the inevitable assignment designed to postpone the amputation of our drawing hands from lack of use...
